About Us

Inspiration

HB as it’s known is California’s coastal city of Huntington Beach, located
along the exciting shores of the American pacific. HB’s iconic pier, golden
beaches, and imaclute surf and skate vibes make Huntington Beach a popular spot
for surfers, beachgoers and it’s a hub for a wide range of events that add
excitement and inspiration to this coastal metropolitan.

HB has been long known for its 8.5 miles of beautiful beach with a
consistent performing surf break earning it the nickname of Surf City. Surf,
sand, sun and an edgy locals only vibe is what the City of Huntington Beach is
all about.

Branding

Although Mark Hurst’s brief visit to this surf city paradise in 2011
inspired him to name his Stand Up Paddle Board company after this location the
name HB is actually pursuant to the companies creators both Mark Hurst and
Miles Hammond thus making the brand Hurst/Hammond Board Surf Company.

Inception

The premise for creating their own paddle board company was to produce high performing SUP boards at a reasonable price point. With no high paid sales reps, sponsored riders or graphic designers Hurst Marina is able to sell very consistent performing touring and surf style paddle boards at a reasonable price point. Using only the best materials and the most proven designs HB Boards allow any user to enjoy paddling, surfing and touring in both flat water and in surf conditions.

Sea Turtles, Artwork, Bamboo and Carbon Fiber. Mark Hurst has been surfing and paddling the beaches north of Puerto Vallarta since the early 2000’s. PV is the ancestral home to 1000’s of Sea Turtles each year. Being able to witness this circle of life first hand of both ancient and new born Sea Turtles in the warm waters of Mexico has been a spiritual part of the experience of Mark’s adventures in and around the bay of Banderas. So, it’s only fitting that Mark hand drew these beautiful silhouettes of turtles to ride along board with him. The inset first nations or Inuit art on the turtles shell is an homage to the spiritual connection the first people to paddle the waters of Canada have with the natural environment. The addition of Bamboo in the construction of the paddle boards is not only beautiful but also serves the purpose of protecting the board from dings and heal depressions. The touring boards are in part hand laid with carbon fiber making them stiffer and lighter to improve paddling performance. In addition, the carbon fiber construction of the paddles create a pure connection for the athlete to the water when out enjoying our beautiful water ways and coastlines.
